…from Radovizia to Tzoumerka…

From Piges, following a breathtaking route that goes through the villages Elati, Kastania, Tetrakomo, Athamanio, we reach Vourgareli, one of the biggest villages of mountainous Arta, where the Red Church or Panaghia Vella predominates. As we start descending, we reach the village Kipseli or Hosepsi, with the Monastery of Evangelistria, one of the most important monuments of the area, where visitors can taste a variety of traditional dishes or spend the night in one of the rooms offered for rent in the village.
Further down, the road leads us to smaller but equally beautiful villages of Tzoumerka. Ramia, with its traditional kangelari dance on the 15th of August; Lepiana, with the small Byzantine church of Ypapanti, which celebrates on February 2nd, and the church of Panaghia Prousiotissa. A church with the same name can also be found on the opposite slope of the mountain, in Grekiko, while in nearby Gourgiana, Chrysospiliotissa is one of the most picturesque monasteries of Epirus, with impressive history.
The Dormition of Virgin Mary is honored with feast that last 2 or 3 days in Mikrospilia and in Katarraktis, where visitors can enjoy comfortable accommodation and visit the monastery of Saint Aikaterini and the breathtaking waterfalls. A relatively new road takes us from Katarraktis to Agnanta, the central village of the area. Further up to the North we enter the Prefecture of Ioannina. The natural beauty of the landscape of Pramanta, the villages Syrrako and Kalarrytes, built solely of stone, the Monastery of Kipina, literally perched on the edge of a high rock, and Matsouki with the Monastery of Vyliza at an altitude of approximately 1050m are the rewards for those visiting the area.
